Our Story
The Four Lakes congregation was established in October 1995. In the early years, the church met in the library of Elvehjem Elementary School, until we purchased a modest facility of our own in October 2001. The church started with 19 people and currently has an average Sunday morning attendance of around 75.
We are active in several mission works, including the ministry of Brett and Joanne Rutherford in Devonport, Tasmania (Australia). Brett served as the minister at Four Lakes from 1996 until he moved back to Australia to help establish a congregation in early 2000. We have been supporting him since that time. We have also provided disaster relief (especially after the Indian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina). Other mission efforts have included Green Bay, Rice Lake, French Bible Missions (based in Crystal Lake, Illinois), and the Spanish congregation in Grayslake, Illinois. We are also quite active in our support of Shults-Lewis Child & Family Services, a Christian residential treatment facility for children who are victims of abuse or neglect. In addition to donating all of the coins from our weekly collection, we also participate in an annual commodity drive for Shults-Lewis. We serve our local community by maintaining a food pantry at our facility.
